Meringue Mishap
Hello peeps! I am trying to blog as often as possible. So, it has been 24 days of fasting. How's it going, guys? As you know, this Ramadan I've been busy with my cooking lessons and for my iftar today, I wanted to try out my favourite childhood cookie - meringue cookies! However, due to unimaginable amount of laziness and lack of determination, I didn't try it whole-heartedly. I altered a lot of the ingredients so I didn't get the exact same taste. But ..the basic ingredients and techniques for making meringue were still applied.
I have checked on the internet that meringue is supposed to be dry inside and out. Meanwhile pavlova should be gooey and soft on the inside but crunchy on the outside. They both have slight difference in terms of the ingredients used. But in the end, they use the same technique.
For meringue, you have to whip the white eggs until foamy. Only then can you pour in your cup of sugar and mix until it reaches stiff peaks (when you turn the bowl upside down, the meringue stays still in the bowl).
*Tips: Don't allow even a drop of egg yolk in your white eggs when you separate them! It's going to ruin everything and your mixture won't turn stiff.
My meringue cookies failed. It didn't remind me of my childhood. The taste was too sweet and gooey inside (in which it shouldn't be!). And when I broke the cookie into two, it's kind of hollow inside. But since I'm not doing it properly (using the exact ingredients etc), this kind of result is expected. :P
I guess you guys have heard about the death of Chua Boon Huat too. It saddened me because he's such a good hockey player and I've always enjoyed watching the senior players in action on the field during tournaments. By the way, I prefer hockey so much more than football.
Rest in peace.
