Celebration Time! (with Rainbow cake recipe)

2:38 AM 3 Comments A+ a-

It was my brother's birthday yesterday. He's 14 now! So fast. But anyway, everyone's growing up now and he looks pretty good-looking for a boy his age. :P I had a few plans. I bought him a comic book as a birthday present and baked a rainbow cake with buttercream!

Well, it was first planned to be a layered rainbow cake. But my purple layer turned out disastrous and breaking anyone's teeth was not part of the plan (guess what? The layer was as hard as a cookie. Thank God, it was still edible.). So, I moved to plan B which is rainbow marble cake!

What should be a five-coloured cake was changed to a four-coloured one; red, yellow, green and blue. I just poured the batter in.

First of all, when I bought the colourings, I only bought three colours (red, blue and yellow). Those are basic colours and I figured out that by mixing
  • blue + red = purple
  • yellow + red = orange
  • blue + yellow = green
So, if you're on a tight budget, find an innovative escape! Playing with colours have never been so fun. I finally applied my kindergarten knowledge in the kitchen! Hehehe My recipe is quite simple. I followed Martha Stewart's recipe. The thing about rainbow cake is you just need to make butter cake mixture and divide them into several different bowls and use different colourings on each of them. Then, put them into a pre-heated oven and bake for 40 minutes. If your batter's not thick enough, don't use too much heat, 150 celsius should be fine. The ingredients are as followed:

3 cups of flour
1 1/2 cup of milk
4 teaspoons of baking powder
5 large white eggs
2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
4 cups of caster sugar
1 cup of butter

Make sure your pan is not too big or you'll end up like my purple layer! Use a smaller pan okay?

I am supposed to go out for a jog but I've become lazy. I'm gonna toughen up and force myself. I've been slacking for a few days already and not to forget, I'm starting my new job tomorrow! All the more reason to make me cry. I'm already worried sick about my finals result, now it's my new job blues. Maybe things won't  be so bad. Keep your positive thoughts up!

Love, FR.
